Jaunty + VirtualBox = Compiz

With the latest VirtualBox (I'm runing 2.2.2) you can use the Compiz 3D effects with Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty. It doesn't run great, or even good, but it runs non-the-less. There is a lot of graphics corruption, especially at the top of the screen, and windows will have random graphics corruption. So even though it is not currently very usable, it is there and hopefully over time it will mature.

The screenshot here shows Cube Atlantis, and the second shows Cube Atlantis with the Desktop Cube, 3D Windows, and Cube Reflection and Deformation.

  4. Did you have to do something to make it work? I enabled 3D Acceleration in VBox 2.2.2 and installed Jaunty but haven't got compiz going yet...what magic?

  5. No, I didn't do anything special. I just downloaded the 9.10 ISO and installed it in VirtualBox 2.2.2 and I noticed that when I clicked on Firefox that it did the pop-out effect. This is on a Windows XP host with ATI Radeon X600 graphics card.

  7. I'm not sure why I can't get it straight. It's the 9.04 ISO, not the 9.10 ISO.

Tombuntu also posted on this at the above link. That may be of help for anyone getting this to work.

  9. Hmmm. May be hardware dependent. Works on a laptop with ATI, no good with the first one I tried which has Intel graphics. Did exactly the same thing on both boxes.
